PUTT PUTT HISTORY on the NSW CENTRAL COAST

Putt Putt Regattas and Brisbane Waters have a lot in common. Many wooden commercial, putt putt and rowing skiffs were built on the foreshores of Davistown, Woy Woy, Orange Grove and Daleys Point going back to the early 1900s. Regattas were often held at Davistown when boat owners / builders decided to challenge each other to determine who had the fastest putt putt or who could row the quickest. On shore celebrations often went late into the evening with lots of music and fun.

PUTT PUTT CRUISING
Many putt putt boats are still in use on Brisbane Waters today. In the Davistown area alone over 30 of the old classics can be seen at their mooring berths with the majority being in superb condition.
In more recent times after the formation of Brisbane Water Marine Watch a regatta for Putt Putts has been held annually. The first three were a joint venture with the Gosford Coastal Patrol with the proceeds being shared by Coastal Patrol and local charities. The last two in 2000 & 2001 were in conjunction with Kincumber Rotary with the proceeds going to Sailability and the Kincumber Youth Centre. Attendance by both Putt Putt entrants and the public has been excellent for these events - especially given the less than ideal weather for a few of them. Participants have travelled from interstate to attend
PREPARING FOR THE START
Putt Putt Regatta Format

There are two major elements a regatta day - the Putt Putt procession and the on-shore entertainment. The emphasis is on family entertainment for all activities. Putt Putt crews are encouraged to dress in period costume and after the procession of boats prizes are awarded in several categories for boats and crews. The shore element usually has both food and entertainment with activities going from mid morning to late afternoon. For details of the next regatta go to the Regatta Details page.
